Day 1
Lesson 1: Point, Line, Plane
Everything has to start somewhere.  Where does design start?  Well, from yesterday’s pre-lesson, I would say that design starts here, in the mind, in emotions, in the natural human tendency to survive, to live life.  When finally it escapes the human body, we see it in its other form, what we see as design.
What I learned:
A point: a pair of two coordinates (x,y), multiple points together create shades of gray.
A line: an infinite series of points.
A plane: a flat surface, usually enclosed by lines, or if a line is wide enough, can be considered a ~.
How used them:
points: to create the gray in art, science, and signature.
lines: to enclose the circle, triangles.
planes: circle, triangles, as well as white background.
Questions of the day(reminds me of Des|MA 9):
Is art a science?
Is science an art?
What is design, an art or a science?
In my model of art and science, there is a circle, or in this case, a line that closes on itself, creating a plane in the shape of a circle.  Art can be at any point in that circle, while science is on the opposing end.  As “art” and “science” progress(say they move in a clockwise direction), it makes it more and more difficult for either to catch up to the other.  Clearly they are two different things, but clearly they are the same.
So where does design fit in all of this?  I say it’s the circle.  Look at it from a distance that is far enough and you’ll see that it’s just another point.
